The Middlesboro Mall will be hosting a Tri-State Talent Search Showcase on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The talent search at the mall has an entry fee of $20 and has six main competition categories. They include country, gospel, dance, clog/country, duo and bluegrass.
There are also adult and youth categories. The age of the youth category is 5-19, and the adult category is 20 and up.
The entry forms can be picked up at the mall at the Belk Department Store in the basket on the sign holder.
The tickets for the Tri-State Talent Award Night are $10 and are available until sold out. The contestants get in free.
The winners of the talent showcase will be announced at the July 20 Tri-State Talent Award Night at the Bell Theater in downtown Pineville. The winners will be eligible to compete in the state competition.
The award night will feature country music artist Leona Williams. She will be accompanied by Ron Williams and Zach Hart.
According to website allmusic.com, Leona Williams has been in the music business since 1958 when she had her own radio show. Williams was then noticed by famed country music star Loretta Lynn — who hired Williams as a bassist and backup vocalist for her band.
By 1968, Williams started her solo career. Williams is best known for her collaboration with country star Merle Haggard. The two were a couple for a time, but they worked best as a songwriting duo — where Williams is considered to have produced her best work.
Their 1978 album “Bull and the Beaver” was a top-10 charting hit.
