JULY 13, AUG. 3, OCT. 4

Lincoln Memorial University (LMU) is hosting a series of three family-friendly outdoor, big screen movies at the Harrogate City Park in July, August and October. Movies In The Park is a free community program that will launch on July 13, with a showing of Disney/Pixar’s Coco. The event starts at 8 p.m. with the movie beginning at dusk, approximately 8:30 p.m. LMU Dining will serve free popcorn and drinks during the movie. Bring lawn chairs and blankets for seating. The series will continue on Aug. 3 with an end of summer showing of The Lego Batman Movie. LMU will host a showing of Wonder Woman on Oct. 4. Start times will vary based on sundown. JULY 14

White Rock Church of God Mt. Assembly, Ewing, Virginia, will host a SINGING at 6 p.m. on July 14 featuring Trio. Everyone is welcome.

Middlesboro’s Community CLEANUP from 9 a.m. to noon on July 14 at the Levitt Lawn on Cumberland Avenue. Lunch will be provided for all volunteers.

The Lone Jack High School ALUMNI REUNION will be held July 14 at Bell County High School. Registration begins at 4 p.m., and group pictures and dinner at 5:15 p.m. Memorial and recognition will be after dinner. Graduating classes ending in years of 3 and 8 will be recognized. One-day VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL at First Christian Church in Middlesboro will be held from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on July 14. This year’s theme is “Camp Out — Getting S’More of Jesus!” All area youth (preschool through rising sixth grade are invited to attend. For transportation, call 606-248-2517.

Middlesboro Elks Lodge No. 119 will host an ACADEMIC QUIZ CONTEST for school children beginning at 10 a.m. on on July 21 at the Elks building, located at 1670 North 25th Street in Middlesboro (1/4 mile behind Walmart). Subjects will be American history and U.S. geography. Prizes will be awarded. Open to the first 75 students who pre-register (must be done by parent/guardian) from the following schools: Middlesboro, Pineville, Bell County or Gateway Christian (seventh, eighth, ninth grades and under age 16 by day of contest. Pre-registration is from 2-5 p.m. on July 14 at the Elks building — detailed contest rules will be provided at registration, any of which will be subject to change on day of contest. The Middlesboro Board of Education regular board meeting on July 17 has been RESCHEDULED to a special board meeting at 6 p.m. on July 19 at the Middlesboro Board of Education, 220 North 20th Street.

The Bell County Cooperative Extension Service will offer a free 4-H CLOVERBUD CAMP from 10 a.m. to noon July 19-20 at Veteran’s Park (U.S. Hwy 119) in Pineville for ages 4-8. Participants will meet community helpers including: The Forestry Department (with Smokey Bear appearance), fire department and sheriff’s office. There will also be hands-on craft activities. The Lincoln School HOMECOMING will be held July 19-22, sponsored by Friends of Lincoln, Inc. The reunion will open July 19 with an invitation to the free Levitt AMP Middlesboro Music Series on Cumberland Avenue beginning at 6 p.m. (headliner appears around 7 p.m.) — bring your own chair. On July 20, events include Tee Time at 9 a.m. at the Middlesboro Country Club — bring your own clubs (meet at Lincoln School Park to convoy to the club); hospitality room at the Middlesboro High School cafeteria from 3 to 6 p.m. (free refreshments and information about events); Dance Party (adults 21 and up) 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. at the Civic Center on North 30th Street with the “Christmas in July” theme — entry fee is $12 person (exact change required). On July 21, events at the original site of Lincoln School will be held (concessions will be provided by the Church of the True Living God of Holiness). The schedule includes: Free fashion show at 1:30 p.m. at the Middlesboro High School Arts Auditorium; Adult Dance for ages 21 and up with the theme “Academy Awards Come to Middlesboro” — entry fee is $15 per person (exact change required) and attire is after five or Sunday best. The Bell County UK Cooperative Extension Service will host SUPER STAR CHEF, a two-day cooking camp for ages 8-15, at 10 a.m. on July 23 and 24 at the Bell County Extension Office. Those who are mourning the death of a family member or friend are invited to attend the GRIEFSHARE video seminar at the New Beginning Baptist Church, located four miles west of Harrogate on TN 63. This non-denominational Christ-centered program features biblical teachings by nationally respected grief experts and others journeying through grief. Organizers provide you the opportunity to be around others who understand. GriefShare also offers valuable insights about building a new normal in life and renewing a new hope for the future. KentuckyOne Health Pediatric Associates, a department of Saint Joseph London, will host its free third annual BACK TO SCHOOL BASH from 2 to 5 p.m. on July 27 at KentuckyOne Health Pediatric Associates, located at 378 Thompson Poynter Road in London. A Back to School BLOCK PARTY will be held from 6 to 11 p.m. on Aug. 3 in downtown Middlesboro. There will be food vendors, entertainment, free school supplies, games and more.

The third annual Vets Serving Vets FREEDOM RUN will be held Aug. 4 at 106 Cherry Street in Pineville. Registration is at 10:30 a.m. with kickstands up at noon. Give Me a Reason (GMAR) is designed for parents/guardians to use to talk with their children and randomly test them, which gives them a reason to say no when tempted or offered drugs. Kits can be obtained at 44 different distribution points (DP) throughout the Tri-State area and at the SIGCO office, located at 502 Pennlyn Avenue in Cumberland Gap, Tennessee. The American RED CROSS is seeking volunteers with flexible schedules to respond to single and multi-family home fires in the Lake Cumberland service area which includes Casey, Adair, Cumberland, Clinton, Russell, Pulaski, Wayne, McCreary, Whitley, Laurel, Clay, Knox, Bell and Harlan counties. Red Cross Disaster Action Team (DAT) volunteers respond to assist families with shelter, support and access to basic needs immediately following a home fire – often arriving on scene even as the fire is still burning.
