Two steadfast and classic summer activities are about to collide — outdoor parks and the movies. It may not be the drive-in, but it could prove to be a fun and reasonable substitute for families in the area.
Lincoln Memorial University will be hosting a series of films at Harrogate City Park starting this month and also in August and October. The first night, July 13, launches with the recent Disney/Pixar hit “Coco” about the Mexican Day of the Dead Festival.
Since these showings will be outdoors, the events will start at 8 p.m. and the movies will begin at 8:30 p.m. as dusk is settling in.
The focus of the movie nights will be family friendly and admission is free. LMU will also provide free popcorn and beverages during the screenings.
Since the event is outdoors, all patrons are encouraged to bring blankets and lawn chairs for maximum convenience and comfort.
The series will continue on Aug. 3 with a screening of “The Lego Batman Movie” — an animated comedy film based off the hit film “The Lego Movie” that focuses on Batman and him realizing the importance of having a family in his life.
Lastly, on Oct. 3, the live action hit “Wonder Woman” will be shown. The film is the first big screen adventure of the 75 plus-year-old comic book character that explores her origins set against the backdrop of World War I.
Showtimes for each film will depend on the timing of sundown.
