<p>Jay Compton | Pineville Sun</p> <p>Middlesboro senior Owen Collins finished as the 13th region runner-up in boys singles. He entered as the number two seed and received a first round bye. He defeated South Laurel’s Taylor Payne 6-4,6-0 in round two and Bell County’s Jaden Pankoiuski 6-3, 6-1 in the quarterfinals to earn a trip to next week’s state tournament. Monday, he outlasted Whitley County’s Reese Halcomb 4-6, 6-4, 10-8 in the semis to reach the championship match. Top seed Chris Tan of Whitley County was able to defeat Collins Monday night to win the championship.</p>

<p>Jay Compton | Pineville Sun</p> <p>Pineville’s girls doubles team of Sarah Combs and Makenzie Fuson won their first round match 6-0, 6-2 over Knox Central’s team of King and Gibson. The Lady Lions were eliminated in round two by Whitley County’s Shaw and Helton.</p>

They knocked off Barbourville’s Carnes and Walker in round one 6-1, 6-0 and got past Middlesboro’s team of Bowling and Lawson 6-2, 2-6, 10-7 in round two. Knox Central’s team of Wilson and Koen eliminated Murray and Lambdin 6-2, 6-2 in the quarterfinals.</p>
