Pineville loses in back-to-back games

In back-to-back games, Pineville came up short against Williamsburg extending their current losing streak to seven games. On Monday, the Lions hit the road and lost to the Jackets 16-6 in six innings. On Tuesday, it was Williamsburg who traveled to hand Pineville a 14-0 loss in five innings.

The loss on Tuesday made it three times that the Lions have lost to the Jackets this season. They also lost to Williamsburg by 10 runs in the opening round of the 13th Region All A Classic in March.

Game 1: Williamsburg 16, Pineville 6

The Lions were fairly successful at the plate on Monday, but it wasn’t enough as Williamsburg pulled away for the 10-run victory in six innings.

In an impressive showing at the plate, Pineville tallied 13 hits and five RBIs. Reed Baker paced the Lions going 3-for-4 with two RBIs. Reese Capps finished the game with three hits and one run.

Timothy Gambrel and Cody Goodin were also consistent on Monday. Gambrel ended the day with two RBIs on two hits. Goodin went 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI. Deon Coffman tallied two runs.

It was Coffman who was credited with the loss on the mound. Through one inning, he allowed 10 hits and 11 runs. Jonathan Simpson also saw time on the mound allowing six hits and five runs through 4 2/3 innings.

For Williamsburg, the bats were hot as well with the team tallying 16 hits. Sydney Bowen led the way going 3-for-5 with two RBIs and three runs. Cameron Bowen finished with three runs and one RBI on four hits, and Jake Harrison tallied three runs and one RBI on two hits.

Sydney Bowen picked up the win while allowing eight hits and six runs. Hunter Brown was credited with the save.

Game 2: Williamsburg 14, Pineville 0

Williamsburg started out fast and never looked back turning a three-run lead after the first into a 14-0 victory in five innings.

Pineville couldn’t get anything going at the plate while failing to register a hit on the day. Timothy Gambrel and Ethan Fields reached base on walks. Jonathan Simpson reached after being hip by a pitch.

Cameron Bowen and Hunter Brown led the Jackets. Brown went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs and five RBIs. Bowen ended the night with two hits, two runs and an RBI. Jake Harrison ended with three runs.

Reese Capps and Deon Coffman manned the mound for Pineville. Capps was credited with the loss allowing nine hits and 12 runs through three innings. Coffman finished allowing three hits and two runs through two innings.

Up Next

Pineville (1-7) will hit the road at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday to square off against Knox Central (8-1).

Williamsburg (7-2) returns to action on Thursday against Wayne County (2-5).
