Panthers hand South Greene 13-4 defeat

It was a combination of solid hitting and good pitching for Cumberland Gap on Monday when the Panthers hosted South Greene. A solid fifth inning allowed Cumberland Gap to pull away as they tallied seven runs en route to a 13-4 blowout.

Michael Moyers, Micah Cannon and Brady Pearman paced the Panthers at the plate. Moyers finished the game going an impressive 3-for-5 with two runs. Cannon tallied two RBIs and two runs on two hits. Pearman registered a team-high three RBIs and scored a run while going 2-for-4 at the plate.

Peyton Welch also tallied multiple runs on the day finishing with two while going 2-for-5 with an RBI.

All in all, it was difficult for the Rebels to stop the Panthers. Cumberland Gap finished the game with 14 hits on the day with five players ending the night with two hits or more.

Matthew Massengill earned the victory on the mound for the Panthers. Through 4 2/3 innings, he allowed five hits and four runs while striking out seven batters. Moyers and Cannon both saw time on the mound as well.

The victory extended Cumberland Gap’s winning streak to five games with the Panthers holding victories over Barbourville (twice), Pineville (twice) and the Rebels in their most recent outings. Cumberland Gap has only fallen victim to West Greene, Union County, Greeneville (twice) and Alcoa this season.

Cumberland Gap (14-5) traveled to South Greene on Tuesday. They will host Cherokee at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
