Pineville hosts holiday classics

Published 4:31 pm Tuesday, December 26, 2017

The traditional Pine Mountain and Chain Rock Classics begin on Wednesday when a variety of boys and girls basketball teams visit Pineville High School. The holiday classics stretch from Wednesday to Friday beginning at 11 a.m. each day.

Three local teams will be competing at the event with host Pineville being the only team with both the girls and boys represented. The Middlesboro girls basketball team will also be participating in the event.

Last year, a loaded Pineville boys basketball team went 2-2 in the Pine Mountain Classic defeating Middlesboro and Berea but falling to South Floyd and Jackson City. The girls basketball team won two of their three games a year ago defeating McCreary Central and Claiborne, Tennessee. The Lady Lions‘ only loss came at the hands of Cumberland Gap.

Middlesboro had a decent showing last year as well going 2-1, but they suffered a devastating injury to leading scorer Hannah Warren that had an impact on the rest of the season. They defeated Claiborne and McCreary Central but lost to Cumberland Gap a year ago.
