Several local football players were recognized for their individual performances throughout the season by the Southeastern Kentucky Conference recently. Sebastian Wagoner, Owen McWilliams, Antonio Zachery, Kyle Burnett and Josh Lawson each took home hardware.

Middlesboro’s Wagoner was awarded co-linebacker of the year in Class A-2A. The junior continued to impress on defense as he racked up a team-best 117 tackles and helped the Jackets to two wins on the season.

Middlesboro’s McWilliams also put together a decent season across the board while playing running back, quarterback, and defensive back. He was recognized for his work on special teams as he was awarded the best special teams player in Class A-2A. He scored two touchdowns on special teams during the season.

Burnett was a force on defensive for the Bobcats. The senior linebacker tallied 84 tackles on the year. He was named co-special teams player of the year in Class 3A-5A.

Pineville’s Josh Lawson was the lone Mountain Lion to receive an individual award from the SEKC. One of the senior leaders on a young team, Lawson hauled in one interception, one fumble recovery and 39 tackles on the year. He was named co-defensive back of the year in Class A-2A.
