Lady Jackets fall 57-49 to K.C.

The Middlesboro girls basketball team dropped their second game in as many days on Tuesday when they traveled to Knox Central. The Lady Jackets kept it close, but they couldn’t find their stride as the Lady Panthers walked away with a 57-49 victory.

For Middlesboro, the season has started out similar to last year — when the Lady Jackets lost their first three games before winning four of the next five. Knox Central opens the year 1-0 after the victory.

Lakin Burke and Baylee Woody provided most of the offensive firepower for Middlesboro. Burke finished the night with 18 points while shooting 45.5 percent from the field. She also hauled in three rebounds on the night.

Woody shot the ball at a 60 percent clip while tallying 13 points. She also shot 50 percent from long range. Hannah Warren finished the game with seven points on 3-of-6 shooting. Malorie Carter and Jamayha Poe led the team in rebounds with four.

Knox Central was led by the trio of Madison Taylor, Emily Davis and Presley Partin. The three combined for 51 of the team’s points. Taylor paced the team with 18 points. Davis ended the night with 17 points while going 9-for-12 from the charity stripe.

Partin tallied 16 points during the game while hitting three 3-pointers. She also hit five of her six free throws.

Middlesboro (0-2) will travel to Harlan (0-1) at 6 p.m. on Tuesday.

Knox Central (1-0) will travel to Bourbon County (1-0) on Tuesday.
