Thanksgiving dinner isn’t always possible for families when times are tough or resources are running low. Cooperative Christian Ministry (CCM) partnered with WFXY to host the third annual Community Thanksgiving Dinner for people who don’t have the resources to prepare their own Thanksgiving meal. The meal couldn’t be possible without their sponsors, Discover Downtown Middlesboro, David Whitlock-Edward Jones, Home Federal Bank and Penelope Media Group.

This year, nearly 300 people gave thanks for a delicious meal complete with turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes, green beans, rolls and delicious cake for dessert. The food was prepared by Lisa Arnett, one of the best cooks in town, and with help from over 25 volunteers the cakes were iced, the food was served and people were welcomed with warm hearts and warm food.

“This year was the biggest turnout that we have had. It was a blessing to have so many families sit down to enjoy a meal and visit with us as well,” said Eric Martin, CCM executive director.

Thanksgiving isn’t the only time that CCM volunteers touch the hearts and lives of those in the community. Every day, faithful volunteers like those pictured come to CCM and help in the food pantry or the clothing closet or simply just come in to pray with clients who need prayer.

From now through Dec. 13, CCM is holding its Annual Toy Drive. CCM is asking folks in the community to pick up a new toy and drop it off at CCM or one of the following locations: First State Financial, Kentucky Utilities, Hickman Building Supplies, Mountain Tarp, Jim Brown Supply, Tim Short Chrysler, Kroger, J.R. Hoe & Sons, Beacon of Light Chiropractic or Commercial Bank in both Middlesboro and Pineville.

“There are many children in Middlesboro that will go without the Christmas they deserve,” said Martin. “We try to make it possible for those children to experience God’s love by sharing the magic of Christmas with them. With the community’s help, we can make their Christmas wishes come true.”
