HARROGATE, Tenn. — The Lincoln Memorial University (LMU) Concert Band and Jazz Ensemble will perform in concert under the direction of Dr. Jim McAllister, assistant professor of music, on Dec. 1, at 7:30 p.m., in the Sam and Sue Mars Performing Arts Center in the Duke Hall of Citizenship.

The LMU Jazz Ensemble will perform a series of contemporary and traditional jazz selections, including arrangements of “Blues in the Closet” by Oscar Pettiford, “Secret Love” by Sammy Fain, and “Cantaloupe Island” by Herbie Hancock. Celebrating the centennial birth year of jazz legend Thelonious Monk, the ensemble will perform an arrangement of Monk’s “Bemsha Swing” arranged by Mark Taylor. The Ensemble will get in the holiday spirit with a performance of “Big Band Holiday” by Carl Strommen.

The Concert Band will highlight classics of wind band literature including “Festivo” by Vaclav Nelhybel and “Third Suite” by Tennessee composer Robert Jager. “On a Hymnsong of Philip Bliss” by David Holsinger and “Variations on a Korean Folk Song” by John Barnes Chance. To finish off the concert, the group will perform “Little English Suite” by Clare Grundman and the holiday favorite “Sleigh Ride” by Leroy Anderson.

The concert is free and open to the public.
