FRANKFORT — The Department for Local Government (DLG) selected the city of Pineville for an award of $49,613.88 from the Land Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) for improvements to Newtown Recreational Park. The proposed funding will go to construct a picnic shelter, playground equipment, tennis court and support facilities in Newtown Park.

“Preserving and maintaining local parks is an integral part of stewarding resources so that they might be enjoyed by all,” said DLG Commissioner Sandra Dunahoo. “The investment in the Newtown Recreational Park will yield many benefits to the children and families of this community.”

“These enhancements will provide local residents a safe, convenient place for children to play and families to gather,” said Sen. Brandon Smith. “I appreciate the leaders of the city of Pineville for seeking these funds and DLG for realizing the value of investing in these improvements.”

“I am thankful these LWCF grant funds will be used to make improvements at the Newtown Recreational Park. The enhancement of playground equipment and a new multi-use tennis and basketball court will make this a useful attraction to the Pineville community for years to come,” state Rep. Rick Nelson.

Administered by DLG, funds for this program are allocated to Kentucky by the Department of Interior, National Park Service. Only upon their approval and an executed Memorandum of Agreement by DLG, may construction begin.
