Levitt AMP Middlesboro Music Series will run through Oct. 5 and will be each Thursday evening with local opening acts taking the stage at 6:30 p.m. and headliners at 7:30 p.m. The Levitt AMP concert series is free to the public and presented by Discover Downtown Middlesboro. The Speak/e/es FAMILY REUNION will be held Sept. 22 and 23. Attendees will gather on Friday at Pine Mountain State Resort Park in Pineville at 6 p.m., followed by a guest speaker and introduction of members and guests. On Saturday, the group will attend a 10 a.m. service at Speaks Chapel United Methodist Church, located at 120 Blue Hollow Road in Rose Hill, Virginia. Rev. Francis M. Bartley Jr. and family members will preside at the service. Following the service, a dedication ceremony will take place at the nearby Speak Chapel Cemetery. Nicholas Speak, ancestor of many Speak members, will be honored with a grave marking ceremony for his service during the War of 1812. That evening, members will enjoy dinner and entertainment followed by the annual business meeting. If you are connected to the Speak/e/es family in any way, you are welcome to attend.

The 43rd annual Dillion Asher REUNION will be held Oct. 6-7. The reunion will be held on Friday in the Ray Harm Room at Pine Mountain State Resort Park in Pineville with dinner from 5:30-7 p.m. in the dining room of the lodge, and a social gathering and business meeting at 7 p.m. On Saturday, the reunion will be held at Cardinal House in Queendale (close to Dillion Asher’s log cabin). There will be an all-day potluck picnic beginning at noon (bring a covered dish). Attendees are encouraged to bring old photos, albums or any information you would like to share with the genealogical family to the reunion. Give Me a Reason (GMAR) is designed for parents/guardians to use to talk with their children and randomly test them, which gives them a reason to say no when tempted or offered drugs. The American RED CROSS is seeking volunteers with flexible schedules to respond to single and multi-family home fires in the Lake Cumberland service area which includes Casey, Adair, Cumberland, Clinton, Russell, Pulaski, Wayne, McCreary, Whitley, Laurel, Clay, Knox, Bell and Harlan counties. Red Cross Disaster Action Team (DAT) volunteers respond to assist families with shelter, support and access to basic needs immediately following a home fire – often arriving on scene even as the fire is still burning.
